"Call me Trim Tab"– R. Buckminster FullerBucky had this written on his gravestone
A Trim Tab is essential to steering a plane or a ship
In the photo above you can barely make out the plane's rudder which runs from the beginning of the V in Virgin to the second letter i. Between the r and the g of the white plane you can see the slightly deflected trim tab.
On the blue tail to the left side of the picture, you can see the trim tab has been moved slightly to the plane's port (left) side.
When Small Changes Yield Big Results
A Former Naval Officer, R.Buckminster Fuller explains the "Trim Tab"
“Something hit me very hard once, thinking about what one little man could do. Think of the Queen Mary — the whole ship goes by and then comes the rudder. And there's a tiny thing at the edge of the rudder called a trim tab. It's a miniature rudder. Just moving the little trim tab builds a low pressure that pulls the rudder around. Takes almost no effort at all. So I said that the little individual can be a trim tab. Society thinks it's going right by you that it's left you altogether. But if you're doing dynamic things mentally, the fact is that you can just put your foot out like that and the whole big ship of state is going to go. So I said, call me Trim Tab.”
- R. Buckminster Fuller
Many people believe the answer to everything is out there in governments, corporations and other organizations. It is there but there is a simple and powerful way to influence everything.
As Buckminster Fuller pointed out a massive ship can be easily steered using very little effort with its trim tab. This is also true of our everyday activities at work, home and with any group of people.
With trim tab solutions to existential risks within your own life is the most powerful skill we can develop to resolve our challenging problems. We can communicate and influence many with the same effort as it does communicate with a single person.
Simplicity is the state or quality of being simple. Something which is easy to understand or explain is simple, in contrast to something complicated. According to Occam's razor, all other things being equal, the simplest theory is the most likely to be true. In the context of human lifestyle, simplicity can denote freedom from hardship, effort or confusion.
Specifically, it can refer to a simple living style.
